School of Information Technology


JNTU Hyderabad established a Computer Center in 1985 with the support from UGC to cater to the needs of computing of various departments. In 1989, to promote Post Graduate studies, a Department of Computer Science was started under IPGSR (Institute of Post Graduate Studies & Research). In early 2001 the impact of Information Technology was felt in every corner of the globe. This led to the formulation of an exclusive institute for Computer Science and Information Technology, the present School of Information Technology (SIT), with a vision to promote Knowledge and Technology transfer in Information and communication technology related areas promoting excellence in IT Pedagogy, Software Consultancy, and establishment of an R & D base in Computer Science and IT related education sectors are the aims of the school.

To emerge as institute of excellence for IT pedagogy.
To make School of IT internationally renowned R & D institute.
To excel in software consultancy.
   
Mission of the Promoting Body :
To offer PG Programs in Computer Science and IT related areas, keeping in tune with the latest developments and industry requirements.
   
To offer advanced level training programs and to promote industry based internships, leading to the development of skilled technical manpower in Software Engineering.
   
To provide guidance and supervision in identified IT domains and to enhance the R & D potential of students and scholars.
 
Academic Autonomy:
The School of IT became autonomous in December 2003.
   
A separate Board of Studies (BOS), which decides the curriculum, is constituted.
   
More flexibility in the curriculum designing.
   
Keeping in view the importance of Soft Skills in the IT Industry, SIT introduced soft skills in all the P.G Courses to improve communication and personality development.
